POSITION:                                           Marketing & Communications Specialist

BEGINNING SALARY:                         Grade 9 - $41,520 - $51,900/yr

                                                             (Compensation based on education, qualifications & experience)


WORKING CONDITIONS:            Full time position, 40 hrs/wk. Must be available to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and
weekends, in addition up to two weeks of “Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training” located at the Administrative Offices in Norman.

Provides high level customer service to internal and external customers of the Pioneer Library System. Works under the direction of the Director of Communications & Employee Development, supports and promotes a strong positive public image of the library system through marketing and communications strategies; develops and coordinates promotional content across media, digital, and print platforms to increase customer awareness of library services, events, and news; performs other duties as assigned.


1.  Education and/or experience:

     a.    BA/BS with emphasis in marketing, journalism, professional writing, public relations, or equivalent experience required;

     b.    Master’s degree preferred;

     c.    Three years relevant library or related experience;

     d.    OR equivalent combination of technical training, experience or education may be considered;

     e.    Valid Driver’s license.


2.  Knowledge, skills and abilities:

     a.    Extensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and protocols of effective marketing, public relations, promotions, and communications; 

     b.    Designs, builds, and updates system web-based services and creates and coordinates marketing content for digital and print platforms;

     c.    Ability to gain knowledge of Pioneer Library System policies and procedures;

     d.    Knowledge of electronic resources, including the internet, database information retrieval, mobile apps, and web content;

     e.    Working knowledge in the operation of computers, office machines and standard office software products;

     f.    Strong skills in written and spoken business communication;

     g.    Lift up to 25 lbs.; retrieve and replace items from floor level to at least 5 ½ feet in height;

     h.    Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
