Moore Norman Technology Center Small Business Management Coordinator Henry Dumas recently learned that he earned the Master Certified Coach (MCC) title through the International Coaching Federation, making him the only MCC in Oklahoma.

Dumas has worked with business owners, developed teams and coached individuals for eight years at MNTC. He said the MCC is a certification that only 4% of business coaches hold worldwide. There are currently 30,079 coaches in 130 countries and territories who hold one of three ICF credentials and of that number only 1,235 are MCCs.

“This is a designation I have been working on for about five years; it is a very rigorous process; there is a reason why a small percentage of us hold this certification – it’s really hard!

“And throughout all of the setbacks and failures, I just kept thinking about Churchill’s quote about never giving up. My goal now is to use this advanced skill set to empower my clients personally and professionally in their own problem-solving and transformational growth,” Dumas said.

According to the ICF website, coachingfederation.org, they are “advancing the coaching profession, so coaching becomes an integral part of society.” It also states they are “the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification and building a worldwide network of trained coaching professionals.” There are three levels of ICF accreditation available: Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and the Master Certified Coach.

Requirements for the MCC are extensive and include:

• 200 hours of coach-specific training.
• 10 hours of mentor coaching over a minimum of three months. The candidate’s mentor coach must be an MCC in good standing.
• A minimum of 2,500 hours of coaching experience with at least 35 clients, following the start of the candidate’s coach-specific training.
• Performance evaluation including two audio recordings and written transcripts of coaching sessions to be reviewed by three MCC assessors.
• Candidate must hold or have previously held a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) Credential.
• Candidate must complete the Coach Knowledge Assessment (CKA) unless previously passed.
